3Restart Windows Explorer

There is a chance you might have terminated Windows Explorer by accident or an infected program might have terminated it. If that is the case, then your PC start menu and taskbar must also be missing.

Step 1. To restart Windows Explorer, press Ctrl+Shift+Esc keys on your keyboard and Task Manager will open up. Here, click on "File" option and select "New Task" from the menu.

Step 2. In the next dialog, enter "explorer.exe" in the empty text field and click on "OK". This should restart the Windows Explorer and restore all the missing icons.

You can also completely restart the PC and the effects will be the same.

4Disable the Tablet Mode

Windows 10 has two screen modes: Desktop Mode and Tablet Mode. If your computer is in Tablet mode, the desktop icons may be missing.

Step 1. Open Windows 10 "Settings" and click  "System" to open the system settings window.

Step 2. Select "Tablet mode" in the left panel and turn it off.
